When it comes to grinding equipment, many people will think of Raymond mill and ball mill. However, few people know the differences between them. When the Raymond mill is working, the materials are transformed to the machine from the feed hopper on the side of the hood and rotate around the vertical axis with the help of the grinding roll device suspended on the star rack of the main machine. While the materials rotate on its own, due to the centrifugal force of rotation, the grinding roll swings outward and presses against the grinding ring, so that the shovel shovels up the material between the grinding roll and the grinding ring, which achieves the purpose of crushing. The materials that do not meet the requirements will do all over again until they reach the required fineness.
The ball mill is kind of a horizontal cylindrical rotating device. The materials enter the first bin of the ball mill evenly by the feeding device through the feeding hollow shaft screw. The first bin is equipped with ladder lining plate or corrugated lining plate, containing different specifications of steel balls. The cylinder rotation generates centrifugal force and sends the steel balls to a certain height and then lets them fall down, producing heavy impact and grinding effect on the material. After coarse grinding is completed in the first bin of the ball mill, the materials enter the second bin through the single-layer partition, where the flat liner plate is set with ball mill steel balls for further grinding. The powder is discharged through the discharge grate, thus the whole grinding operation is fulfilled.
The complete structure of Raymond mill is composed of main engine, classifier, piping device, blower, cyclone separator, jaw crusher, dustpan elevator, electromagnetic vibrating feeder, electric control motor and so on. Among them, the main engine of Raymond mill consists of rack, inlet worm, shovel, grinding roll, grinding ring, cover shell and motor.
The ball mill is composed of the parts of feeding, discharging, rotary, transmission (reducer, small transmission gear, motor, electric control). The hollow shaft is made of cast steel, and the lining can be removed and replaced, and the large gear of the rotary is made of cast hobbing, and the cylinder is embedded with wear-resistant lining plate.
Although the structure of ball mill is simple and solid with reliable operation, simple maintenance and management, and it has long-term continuous operation, strong adaptability to materials, large crushing ratio (up to 300 or more) and large production capacity, but the shortcomings of it are also obvious. It has low efficiency, bulky size, large consumption of grinding body and liner, large noise during operation. Besides, the fineness of its final materials is difficult to reach the fineness requirements of industrial production.
Raymond mill is widely used in metallurgy, building materials, chemical industry, mining and other fields of mineral materials grinding processing, and suitable for processing a variety of non-flammable and explosive materials with Mohs hardness below 7, humidity below 6%. The fineness of the finished product is between 613μm ~ 44μm, which can meet the use of different user requirements through the joint action of the classifier and fan.
The processing of ball mill is generally divided into two types - dry and wet type. The wet is widely used in the field of mineral processing, while the dry type is used in cement, ceramics, resistant material and other industries. Its fineness of finished product can reach 425 mesh. According to the different ways of ore discharge, it can be also divided into two types: lattice type and overflow type.
Although both Raymond mill and ball mill can grind materials and process them into fine powder or granular materials, these two types of equipment also have different essential differences.
