Quartz Mining Operation

Quartz can be mined by open pit quarrying or underground mining method based on several different factors, such as location, depth, ore characteristic, geometry, morphology, environment, economics. Quartz stone products generally are loosened by drilling and blasting and then are loaded by power shovel or front-end loader into large haul trucks that transport the material to the processing operations. Techniques used for quartz mining operation vary with the nature and location of the deposit. Quartz mining operations may include crushing, screening, size classification, material handling and storage operations.

Quartz Mining Technique

Open pit mining is the process of extracting quartz ore from the ground by digging. Most open pits are designed in a step-like structure, with each step dug deeper into the earth to reach the area to be mined. The goal is to remove the valuable material, but that involves first removing large quantities of rock at the lowest possible price. Trucks and mining machinery are free to move around as they need to. More machines can move more ore and haul off waste rock more quickly.

Underground quartz mining is a process of removing materials from deep within the surface of the Earth. There are a number of types of underground mining techniques, including long wall and room and pillar mining. The material removed from the mine is delivered to surface on conveyor belts and in rail cars where it is taken to a processing plant.
